Many over the counter weight loss supplements consist of herbs or extracts of herbs made into teas or capsules that have a questionable effectiveness in the management of weight loss. Most have not been adequately studied by science and people don’t really know what the active ingredient is in the extract amount, if any.

Caffeine, or 1,3,7-trimethylxanthine, is one of the active ingredients in Phentramin-d
With the over-the-counter weight loss supplement phentramin-d, the active ingredients are both known and the mechanism of action is known. There are basically two ingredients in phentramin-d. Both have been created in an FDA-approved laboratory and neither are plant extracts or impure compounds. They include 1,3-dimethylpentylamine (geranamine) and 1,3,7-trimethylxanthine (caffeine). They work together to exert a sympathomimetic effect on the body, meaning that they turn on the sympathetic (fat-burning) aspect of the body. The sympathomimetic effect is also the brain’s fight or flight response which raises energy levels and lowers the appetite levels.
Phentramin-d’s ingredients also maximize the metabolism of the body’s cells. It makes the cells of the body work better and faster, burning up more energy than ever before and allows you to burn calories at a faster rate. This means that you will burn calories and lose weight even though you are still eating some calories. Ideally, you combine this with a low-calorie diet and you lose even more weight.
The ingredients in phentramin-d provide an increase in overall energy. The cells of your body are energized and you feel more like doing things, such as exercise, walking, running or some other activity.
The ingredients in Phentramin-d also act within the hunger center of your brain and reduce your appetite. Your caloric intake is less because you eat less and you lose weight even faster because you’re better able to control the amount of food you eat at meals.
There is some evidence that 1,3-dimethylpentylamine and 1,3,7-trimethylxanthine actually work better than phentermine, the prescription diet pill. Science tells us that they work in much the same ways to each other. Phentramin-d, like phentermine, is not considered a miracle pill but has been shown to cause weight losses of up to ten pounds in the first week, with weight losses of about one to four pounds per week after the first few weeks. This means it is a good medication for those who need to lose a great deal of weight and want to stick to an over-the-counter diet pill.
